Design in Details

When we talk about attention to detail, in any type of industry, what we usually mean is the art of paying particular attention to the smaller details of a project. By not cutting any corners and taking the care to make sure an entire project is carried out successfully, with the dedication to maximise the potential of even the smallest features, a project will have a more professional and wonderful finish. When it comes to interior design, smaller features might not make the most impact but when all of those smaller features work together and immense care is taken at every level, that’s the perfect recipe for designing a home that is flawless and perfectly finished.

It certainly pays to have a detailed plan before you begin work. Make a list of all the considerations you need to make regarding the design of your home and explain how you’ll approach each of these parts of the plan. Drill down into the smaller details, for example ‘artificial fuchsia roses in a clear glass vase’ will have much more of an impact than ‘flowers’, and will guide you through your project much easier without letting you lose focus on the bigger picture and your overall goals. A structured plan makes it easier to make sure that all parts of your home, right down to the finer details, are taken care of. Budgets are an important factor in any home improvement or interior design project and should not be rushed or without finer details. It’s easier and almost innate within us to assign larger chunks of budget to the bigger features like furniture and labor if needed. But what we shouldn’t do is spend all of our project budget on just the bigger items, and forget about the smaller details or assume that those aren’t as important, or can be dealt with at a later date as part of a new project with a different budget. In fact, it’s the smaller details where we shouldn’t skimp on costs and make decisions at a later date.

Creating a good foundation for your home is the best way to start your journey towards a striking interior design project. Careful consideration about the room’s main elements such as walls, doors and carpets can have a huge negative impact on your home if they are rushed or completed without a professional finish. It’s easy to take these details for granted, but a poor plaster job or scruffy paint job can give a room an unprofessional and poorly finished message, even if the rest of the design is absolutely stunning. These aspects form the basis of the entire room, so be prepared to take your time and get the job done properly.
